Allure of the Automobile :: Mike H

This past weekend, while Liana’s parents were in town we decided to entertain them with some great food at a couple of our favorite restaurants and visits to a couple Atlanta landmarks. Since I was working on Friday, Liana had to take her parents to the Georgia Aquarium by herself, but on Saturday we were all able to enjoy a visit to the High Museum of Art. The major exhibit at the museum right now is called ‘Allure of the Automobile’, which includes several extremely rare and historic automobiles spanning several decades.

Though I’m a bit of a car nut, most of my car knowledge is limited to those vehicles manufactured over the last two or three decades. I of course recognized many of the classics in the exhibit, but their history wasn’t something I knew much about. Even after circling through the multiple rooms numerous times I still hadn’t learned anything new as I was so transfixed on the beauty of the automobiles. I’m sure I annoyed many of my fellow museum patrons as I kneeled time and time again trying to capture images from every intriguing angle.

I hope the images below and those in the slideshow managed to capture some of those angles I was in awe of…

Man that blue and white Ferrari is beautiful. :-) I love classic Ferraris! That said the 2nd, 4th and 5th frames are my favorite. I love how the picture of the Porsche has that abandoned feel to it.

#2 and #5 are my favorites – no distractions from other visitors (unavoidable usually, I understand), beautiful shapes and lovely B&W conversion giving a good range of contrast.

#1 is a superb angle for that car – wish you could clear the room first! :)
